Why custom home builders charge for quotes
At Lancaster Homes, like all professional builders, we charge a nominal fee to provide our customers with a comprehensive quotation for their building project. There are several reasons for this.
Why should you pay for a quote from a custom home builder?
It’s a question we get asked a lot. Why should you pay for a builder to do work that they don’t yet have a contract for?
Our answer is simple: A lot of time, industry knowledge and experience goes into calculating and detailing an accurate project quotation.
Plus, with Lancaster Homes theres more to it than that! Through the preliminary design and quoting stage, we work as a consultant to get your plans to a point where they can be priced. Our builder collaborates closely with our designers to provide you with all the required documentation and drawings necessary to take each home from concept to construction. With all the documents prepared, we can formulate and present a detailed scope of work, and cost analysis.
We do this because it’s important to us that our clients understand what their project will really cost before we start building! We want you to have all the information necessary so that when it comes time for signing on the dotted line, there are no surprises or misunderstandings about what we’re doing—and why!
The information gained during this process is vital to understanding what works, what doesn’t work, and how best to proceed with the design of your home. Without this information, there is no way that we can provide an accurate quote that reflects the true cost of building your new home.
A custom home builder can’t simply give you the same price they gave their last customer, because every house is different. Custom homes are built to meet your specific needs and preferences, so it’s impossible to compare one project to another and come up with an accurate estimate.
Custom home builders know that homeowners want to feel confident about their purchase, which means providing accurate information about what it’s going to cost (rather than just making up an estimate based on past projects).
How does the proposal process work?
You’ve found a lot of builders online and you’re ready to start the process of building your dream home. You know that choosing the right builder is going to be an important decision, so you want to make sure you have all the information you need before deciding. But what if they don’t give you enough information? How can you tell whether or not they’re giving you a fair quote?
At Lancaster Homes, we’re all about making sure that you get the best possible experience with us. That’s why we make sure that every single detail is covered in our proposals—and why there are 13 steps in our design and construct process.
